Louis Thomas Rebisso (1837 - 1899) Italian born American sculptor and teacher. After immigrating to the United States Rebisso settled in Cincinnati, Ohio where he spent the most productive years of his career. [1] Among those who studied with him at the Cincinnati Art Academy were William Jacob Baer, Solon Borglum, Janet Scudder, Mary Chase Perry Stratton and Eli Harvey .[2] Selected commissions (All are in the United States) * General Grant, Chicago, Illinois The park-like area is named after James B. McPherson, a major general who fought in the Union Army during the American Civil War before he was killed at the Battle of Atlanta. The Society of the Army of the Tennessee presented an equestrian statue of McPherson, which was erected at McPherson Square and dedicated on October 18, 1876. The sculpture represents McPherson surveying a battlefield. It was made by Louis Rebisso out of a captured cannon and rests on a granite pedestal. Statue of William Henry Harrison at Garfield Place in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. This statue was modeled by Louis Thomas Rebisso, and erected in 1895.
