Jean Dominique Aubin is a French painter and sculptor (1888-1977), Prix de Rome for sculpture in 1922.
 

His life

Jean Dominique Aubin was born in Ajaccio, September 25, 1888, where his father was a merchant. In 1905 the family moved to Marseille, Jean-Dominique joined the School of Fine Arts where he began studying architecture, soon after, he turned to painting and sculpture, circa 1910 His father left Marseilles with his family for a position at the headquarters of an insurance company in Paris.

Admitted to the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in the sculpture section, 7 May 1907, he was a pupil of Jules Coutan, he turned to painting and also has as a teacher Alphonse Moutte.

Rewarded with several awards and medals including the Salon of French artists in 1914 where he received an honorable mention with a plaster statue, "Bacchante" "it is the same year, the fifth logistics for the Prix de Rome for sculpture.

The war interrupted his studies; mobilized second regiment of mountain artillery and said he did in 1919, the Academy in Rome awarded him, that year, the second second Grand Prix de Rome for sculpture 1.

Jean Dominique Aubin competed three times and it still in 1922, he was consecrated by obtaining the first prize with a sculpture of Saint Christopher. He stayed at the Villa Medici between 1923 and 1926.

In 1931, he married and moved to a Venezuelan born in Ajaccio, where his two son, he lives in Venezuela between 1937 and 1946 because of the war, after a few years back in Paris and Corsica, he retired definitely in Caracas.

The most important part of his work is in his adopted country, among others, a group of horses for the new military academy in Caracas made in 1947 in his Paris studio, the statue of the equestrian monument of General Florencio O'Leary (great figure of the independence of Venezuela), dated 1949, the statue of General Francisco de Miranda, in 1951 the statue of the equestrian monument of Simon Bolivar offered by the Government of Venezuela to the Republic of Haiti.

He died September 18, 1977 in Caracas.


His works
