Joseph Henri Teixeira de Mattos (Amsterdam, 21 December 1856 - The Hague, 19 december 1908) was a Dutch sculptor and painter. [1] Julius Jacobus van de Sande Bakhuyzen Life and work Henri Teixeira de Mattos took lessons at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. He lived in Rome (1879-1881) to acquire further skills in sculpture. Back in the Netherlands continued his studies at the academy, where he was a pupil of August Allebé among others. Teixeira was not the only artist in his family, he was uncle of Joseph Mendes da Costa, sculptor and painter Joseph Teixeira de Mattos. Known from Teixeira are the animal figures, which he found inspiration in Artis (1881-1892) and the London Zoo, London Zoo (1892-1899). Some of his designs were executed in porcelain by Plateelbakkerij Haga [2] and The Royal Delft. List of Dutch sculptors
