Guillaume, Edouard, Marie Dubufe whose name is sometimes spelled Dubuffe (1853-1909) was a French sculptor and decorative painter, born in Paris on May 16, 1853 and died at sea in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 1909. He is buried at Père-Lachaise in Paris (10th Division) 1.

Biography

Son of the painter Edouard Louis and Juliette Dubufe2 Dubufe born Zimmermann, sculptor, born in Paris, surrounded by his paternal grandfather, also a painter, Claude Marie Dubufe Paul and his maternal uncle, the composer Charles Gounod (1818-1893 ) who had married in 1852, Maria Zimmermann's sister his mother, whose father was a renowned pianist. First student of his father and his mother who teaches sculpture, he continued his training with Alexis Joseph Mazerolle (1826-1889).

In 1875 he married Cecilia Woog and the couple had five children, Juliette Dubufe-Wehrle, who in turn becomes a painter. He bought a painter who had it built in 1878, a mansion at 43 Avenue de Villiers in Paris XVII. His niece, Mrs. Jules Henner will acquire its request for this house and turn it into a museum in 1921, before donating it to the State 19263.

The family spent long periods in their large villa of Anacapri on the island of Capri in Italy, where William performs paintings of his house and that will be exhibited in 1906 at the Galerie Georges Petit. It seems that he worked there from 1888 to 1890 a series of large paintings of the Virgin Mary. In 1891, he decorated the ceiling of the gallery Lobau at the City Hall of Paris and the hall of the Elysee Palace in 1894, the library of the Sorbonne in 1896. That same year, he designed and the decoration for the Salon National des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
