Camille-Felix Bellanger or simply Camille Bellanger (born in Paris on January 13, 1853, died in 1923) was a French painter and lithographer. He was one of the French artists most endowed and among most educated of the end of the 19th century and the beginnings of the 20th century. Most of its paintings are in the collections of the museums of which some are the museum of Louvre and the museum d' Orsay.
Biography
amille Bellanger studied in the school of the fine arts of Paris under the direction of Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889) and William Bouguereau (1825-1905). At the age of 21 years , he gained the second price of l' exposure of Rome, and continued thereafter to receive many rewards and price for its paintings. Bellanger regularly exposed his work and he wrote a book which makes authority on the matter, Traité Painting. He became a professor of art (teaching inter alia the drawing with l' military academy of Saint-Cyr military school). It was appointed painter of the navy on February 22, 1896 and was high with the rank of knight of the legion d' honor in 1911. He is appreciated for his exceptional academic paintings on historical and mythological subjects, and for his various drawings (portraits, characters etc). Among his work one can note: Death; Abel (1875); Angel with the tomb (1877); Twilight and morning (1881); Cuckoo! (1882); Dead Cupid, a Florist (1883).
