André Favory born March 29, 1889 in Paris , where he died February 5, 1937, was a French painter and illustrator.

Biography

Student at the Academie Julian, and strongly influenced by Cezanne, Favory painted in a Cubist style in the early years of his career.

In 1914, he left for war. When setting out again in 1919, the trenches experience profoundly changed his conception of art. It then moves away from the Cubist movement, he considers too intellectual, to approach more carnal aspects of nature and life.

He made frequent trips to Belgium to study the work of Rubens, who shall thereupon have a decisive influence on him.

Become a master of color, Favory now painted in warm colors of landscapes, nudes and portraits of voluptuous women are very sensual. He exhibits regularly in large rooms (Salon d'Automne in 1921 to 1923, the Salon des Tuileries in 1923-1924, etc..). During the 1920s, the works of Favory are exhibited in many galleries in Paris and Brussels, and London, Amsterdam, New York and Tokyo. To critics as influential as Vauxcelles Louis, is a major artist of his generation.

He is also active as an illustrator for such publications as The Poems of humor sad Jules Supervielle (1919), a reissue of Sentimental Education by Gustave Flaubert (1924), opened the night of Paul Morand (1924 ), Game of "Madame Sick" by Maurice Beaubourg (1926), or drugs and paintings, contemporary art music of François Quelvée (undated).

Suffering from a severe and disabling disease, he should stop painting in the early 1930s, and died in 1937.
